Kahoot's Free Player Limit in 2026 (It's Just 10)

Kahoot's free plan limits you to just 10 players per game in 2026, and only 3 if you signed up with a business account. Here is every Kahoot plan's player cap, what happens when you hit the limit, and free alternatives that let you host far more players.

Business Accounts Get Only 3 Free Participants

This catches a lot of people off guard: the 10-player limit applies to personal Kahoot accounts. If you registered with a Kahoot business (work) account, the free tier caps your games at 3 participants — enough to test a quiz, but not enough to actually run one for a team.

If you're wondering "why is my Kahoot limited to 3 players?" — that's why. The account type you chose at signup determines your free cap, and switching account types after the fact isn't straightforward. For work events, this effectively makes Kahoot's free tier a demo rather than a usable plan.

It also wasn't always this tight: Kahoot's free tier once allowed 50 players, and the cap has been lowered over the years as more features moved behind paid plans.

What Happens When You Hit the Limit?

There's no soft overflow. Once your session reaches its participant cap, the join screen simply blocks additional players from entering the game PIN. The 11th person at your trivia night gets an error while everyone else plays — usually right as the event is starting, which is the worst possible moment to discover the cap.

Your options at that point: upgrade to a paid Kahoot plan on the spot (Presenter at $26/mo covers 50 players), have people share devices in pairs, or switch to a platform with a higher free limit before your next event. If you are switching from Kahoot, Trivia Anywhere is the easiest free alternative.
